Tyson Dawson

Tyson Dawson is a PhD student in the Genomics and Bioinformatics program of the Institute for Biomedical Sciences. Tyson is interested in the role of viruses in human transcriptional response. Tyson studies both exogenous viruses like SARS-CoV-2 and endogenous retroviruses, remnants of ancient viral infections that infected human ancestors millions of years ago and which may drive human diseases like lupus and Alzheimer's disease.

Determining the role of HERVs in lupus
Determining the role of HERVs in lupus

I aim to integrate gene and HERV expression data from lupus patients to uncover roles for HERVs in this disease. HERV expression may also be useful for subtyping lupus patients.
